A Dog's Life
The dogs on my home page are my dog, Sasha, and my friend's dog, Thor. I took these pictures December 2004 at Emma Wood state beach.(Only in California, right?) Sasha, a lab/pitbull mix, was 161/2 . I had her since she was a puppy. Thor, a boxer, was almost 4. They played for 3 hours that day! Sasha loved the ocean! She had so much fun. Just one month later, she couldn't urinate and stopped eating. Cancer was blocking her uretha and was so advanced that there was really only one choice.
During Sasha's life, I juggled a variety of jobs and relationships while on the never-ending community college plan. I finally did transfer to Cal Poly Pomona, majoring in aerospace engineering. I lasted a little over a year before realizing that I was trying to build on a foundation that had slowly been crumbling over the years. I came back to Camarillo shortly before Sasha died not knowing where I was going with the rest of my life. Latte's human saw my confusion and frustration daily. One day she told me that I had such a unique understanding of and closeness to dogs, I should start my own dog walking and sitting business. Now, dog's have been a part of my life since I was 5 years old. We also had a variety of other pets in my youth including rabbits, ducks, a chicken, guinea pigs, a tortoise, and fish. I didn't have to think about it very long before I realized that this is what I wanted to do.
As I researched the field, I quickly realized what a tremendous need existed for a service that would not only watch your pets while you were away, but exercise them on a regular basis, and work with them on there social skills, refresh obedience training, and work on other problems your dogs may be having. Dogs are very matter-of-fact. So am I, and I designed my business to be. Our rates are very clear, apply all the time, and apply whether we are walking your dog, running him, or teaching him backflips. We reward owners and dogs for good behavior. Our work is rewarding. We don't run from hard work. We embrace it.
If you look at this big valley we live in, and take away the houses and other buildings, what are you left with? Wait a second. Put the houses back. Just take away the fences and the cars. That's what the dogs want. Now, of course, they can't have that. We try to offer them the next best thing. We take them out to run. We take them out to meet the other dogs that they only hear, or smell. We take them out to interact with the other dogs. We interact with them. All that pent up energy and anxiety, we burn up. The dogs are fulfilled and satisfied.
Dogs also need human companionship. That's why they are dogs and not wolves. We provide this while you are away with Sleepovers and Vacation Visits. Some dogs live indoors and need to go out to potty. We provide quick, affordable Potty-breaks so your busy work day doesn't need to be interupted.
At A Dog's Life, our goal is to provide our services to as many dogs as possible. Since dogs don't have wallets, it's the humans that make the economic decisions for them. That is why, although you will not find better service anywhere, we work as hard as we can to provide the lowest rates around.
